Ketika melakukan kegiatan di bawah sinar matahari langsung, kulit berisiko terpapar sinar UVA dan UVB. Paparan sinar UV dapat memberikan dampak buruk bagi kulit, salah satunya adalah kanker kulit.

Dilansir Cancer.org, studi menemukan bahwa resiko kanker kulit dapat meningkat akibat beberapa penyebab berikut:

  • Berkegiatan terlalu lama di bawah sinar matahari tanpa perlindungan tabir surya
  • Tinggal di area yang curah sinar mataharinya tinggi
  • Memiliki riwayat sunburn (kulit terbakar sinar matahari)
  • Pada kulit ada tanda kerusakan seperti actinic keratoses, penebalan, kulit kering dan berkerut
  • Penggunaan tabir surya dengan kandungan Sun Protection Factor (SPF) dapat membantu melindungi kulit dan mengurangi resiko kanker kulit.

Dilansir Medical News Today, berikut adalah panduan level SPF yang terkandung pada tabir surya:

  • Proteksi rendah - SPF di bawah 15, memblokir 93% sinar UV B
  • Proteksi medium - SPF 15 - 29
  • Proteksi tinggi - SPF 30 - 49, memblokir 97% sinar UV B
  • Proteksi sangat tinggi - SPF di atas 50, memblokir 98% sinar UV B

Tabir surya dapat memberikan perlindungan pada kulit atas paparan sinar UV A dan sinar UV B. Sinar UV B dapat menyebabkan kemerahan pada kulit, sedangkan sinar UV A tidak. Namun, sinar UV A dapat menyebabkan penuaan dini, termasuk kulit keriput.

Yang dapat dilakukan ketika sering melakukan kegiatan di bawah sinar matahari

  • Pastikan untuk selalu mencari tempat teduh yang dapat melindungi dari paparan sinar matahari langsung
  • Lindungi tubuh dengan menggunakan pakaian yang memiliki lengan panjang
  • Gunakan topi yang dapat melindungi kepala, wajah, dan leher dari paparan sinar matahari
  • Gunakan kacamata yang dapat memblokir sinar UV sehingga dapat melindungi mata
  • Gunakan tabir surya di bagian kulit yang tidak tertutupi pakaian terutama di jam 10.00-16.00 di mana paparan sinar UV paling tinggi

Tips memilih tabir surya

Tidak semua produk tabir surya dapat melindungi dari paparan sinar UV A dan UV B, bacalah label kemasan terlebih dahulu. Atau cari produk yang menawarkan perlindungan broad-spectrum, yang dapat memberikan perlindungan paparan sinar UV A dan UV B

Pilihlah tabir surya yang kandungan SPF-nya di atas 15 untuk kegiatan sehari-hari, dan pilih tabir surya dengan kandungan SPF minimal 50 apabila Anda melakukan kegiatan yang cukup lama di bawah sinar matahari

Cara menggunakan tabir surya

  • Tabir surya harus diaplikasikan ke seluruh kulit terutama yang tidak terlindungi pakaian, setidaknya 15 menit sebelum melakukan kegiatan di luar
  • Aplikasikan kembali setiap 40-120 menit untuk memberikan perlindungan maksimal
  • Pastikan mengaplikasikan ulang tabir surya apabila Anda melakukan kegiatan seperti: berenang, mudah berkeringat, atau melakukan kegiatan olahraga di udara
