Dalam tubuh manusia, cairan empedu memiliki fungsi yang penting. Cairan yang dihasilkan oleh hati ini bertugas membantu mencerna makanan berlemak yang Anda konsumsi. Mengenal Sistem Empedu

Cairan empedu dihasilkan oleh hati yang kemudian disimpan dalam kantung empedu. Kantung empedu berada dalam rongga perut sebelah kanan di bagian bawah lobus kanan dan lobus quadratus liver.

Kantung empedu berbentuk seperti buah pir berukuran kecil yang tertutupi hati. Selain berhubungan dengan organ hati, kantung empedu juga berhubungan langsung dengan ujung awal usus 12 jari.

Ketika cairan empedu diproduksi sel hati namun belum digunakan, cairan ini akan disimpan dalam kantung empedu yang berkapasitas 30-50 milimeter.

 

Fungsi Cairan Empedu

Dilansir dari John Hopkins Medicine, cairan empedu memiliki dua fungsi utama yaitu membantu menguraikan lemak dan membuang zat sisa metabolisme dari dalam tubuh. Namun selain itu cairan empedu juga memiliki berbagai fungsi lainnya terkait sistem pencernaan tubuh.

Beberapa fungsi cairan empedu di antaranya:

Membantu Enzim Pencernaan

Enzim pencernaan dalam sistem pencernaan manusia baru dapat bekerja dengan baik dalam lingkungan yang memiliki pH tidak terlalu asam. Namun cairan lambung umumnya bersifat asam karena menghasilkan asam klorida yang digunakan untuk membantu mencerna makanan.

Adanya cairan empedu berfungsi menetralkan kondisi lambung yang asam. Cairan empedu cenderung bersifat asam dan memiliki sifat menyerap air dan bikarbonat yang ada di sekitarnya. Akibatnya, cairan empedu menjadi lebih encer dan lebih basa. Kandungan pH tersebut membantu menetralisir lingkungan lambung yang asam sehingga kerja enzim pencernaan menjadi lebih maksimal.

Membantu Mencerna Lemak

Salah satu fungsi utama cairan empedu adalah mencerna dan mengemulsi lemak. Selain lemak, cairan empedu juga penting dalam mencerna protein dan karbohidrat. Cairan asam empedu memiliki sifat pengemulsi yang bertugas memecah lemak.

Ketika mencerna lemak, cairan empedu akan memecah lemak menjadi gumpalan yang lebih kecil. Lemak yang telah dipecah selanjutnya akan diproses bersama enzim lipase untuk dicerna dan diserap.

Membunuh Bakteri

Cairan empedu juga memiliki fungsi membunuh bakteri, mikroba dan parasit berbahaya yang masuk melalui makanan. Sifat basa dari cairan empedu dapat menghambat pertumbuhan mikroba dan bakteri di dalam usus.

Jangan melewatkan jam makan

Kantung empedu Anda melepaskan cairan empedu setiap kali Anda makan. Ketika Anda melewatkan makanan, akan terjadi penumpukan cairan empedu. Hasilnya, kadar kolesterol di kantung empedu Anda akan meningkat. Seiring berjalannya waktu, gumpalan lemak lilin bisa mengeras menjadi batu empedu.

Pilih makanan yang sehat untuk empedu

Kesehatan empedu juga dapat dipengaruhi oleh makanan yang Anda konsumsi. Beberapa makanan yang dianjurkan untuk menjaga kesehatan empedu di antaranya makanan rendah lemak dan makanan berserat tinggi.

Selain itu, Anda juga dianjurkan untuk mengonsumsi makanan yang mengandung lemak jenuh atau karbohidrat olahan seperti gula, tepung olahan, dan makanan-makanan manis.
